When Did I Conceive?

When Did I Conceive?

So, you’re pregnant. Now you might be wondering—when exactly did you conceive, and how can you determine who the father is? Need answers now? Text or speak anonymously with a nurse for free at (785) 242-4500

While pinpointing the exact moment of conception isn't scientifically possible, your body's natural rhythms and cycles can provide a fairly close estimate of when it occurred.

What Date Did I Conceive?

Whether you're just a few weeks or several months into your pregnancy, you can use simple calculations to estimate when you likely conceived.

On average, there are two-to-three days when you ovulate – the time when your body can get pregnant – each menstrual cycle. This usually happens around two weeks after the start of your last period.

Conception Date Calculator

By figuring out how much time has passed since your last period, you can get a rough idea of your ovulation window and, therefore, when conception might have occurred.

If you’d rather not do the math on your own, there are free online tools to help with this calculation, or you can text us at (785) 242-4500 for assistance.

Remember, this is just an estimate. Every woman’s cycle is different—some have longer or shorter ovulation periods, and ovulation may happen earlier or later in the cycle.

Also, it’s important to note that sperm can survive for up to five days in the body, meaning intercourse before the ovulation window opens can still lead to pregnancy if the sperm remains viable.1, 2

Conception Date from Ultrasound

Another way to estimate your conception date is by having an ultrasound. Since fetuses develop at a consistent rate, an ultrasound can provide a more precise estimate of when conception occurred compared to an ovulation calculator.

Beyond determining when you conceived, an ultrasound also helps verify the health and viability of the pregnancy, ensuring that it hasn’t ended in miscarriage and isn’t ectopic.3

While you can get an ultrasound at your OB-GYN’s office, this often involves paperwork and billing. At LifeCare Center, we offer free ultrasound services, which may allow you to avoid dealing with insurance or hospital procedures.
