Confirm Your Pregnancy
Free Ultrasounds in Ottawa
At LifeCare Center, we offer free, limited ultrasounds to help you determine how far along your pregnancy is, check for a fetal heartbeat, and confirm that the pregnancy is in the uterus. Our ultrasounds are performed by trained nurses who are trained in limited sonography.

Common Ultrasound FAQs
Did You Know?
An ultrasound is the most accurate way to confirm if your pregnancy is progressing. Studies show that up to 25% of pregnancies may not continue, and sometimes miscarriages aren’t noticed until seen on an ultrasound. If a miscarriage is detected, it’s important to get follow-up medical care. We’re here to provide the information and support you need.
-
Because free ultrasounds are in high demand in Ottawa and the surrounding area, we ask clients to confirm their need with a positive pregnancy test first.
We provide free pregnancy tests and can often schedule your ultrasound for the same day. This helps us ensure we’re serving those who need it most while making the process as quick and convenient as possible for you.

If you’re thinking about abortion, your first step is an appointment to get an ultrasound.
Before scheduling an abortion, an ultrasound will help determine:
1. If your pregnancy is progressing: This information is important because it affects which abortion method you’re eligible for. The type of procedure and cost depends on your health history and how far along you are.
2. If your pregnancy is viable: The only way to know for sure if your pregnancy is progressing is through an ultrasound. Studies show that up to 1 in 4 pregnancies may not progress, and some women don’t realize they’ve had a miscarriage until it’s seen on an ultrasound. If you’ve miscarried, you’ll need follow-up care from a doctor.
An ultrasound gives you the information you need to make the best decision for your situation. -
What Limited Ultrasounds Can Do:
Limited ultrasounds are helpful for a few key things. They can:
- Check for the baby’s heartbeat.
- Give you an estimated due date.
- Tell you if you’re carrying one baby or more (like twins).
- Let you know if you need to go to the emergency room right away for any urgent issues.
What Limited Ultrasounds at LifeCare Center Can’t Do:- Tell you the sex of the baby.
- Find or diagnose any problems with the baby’s development.
- Replace regular prenatal care with a doctor or midwife.
Always follow up with a healthcare provider for full prenatal care and any concerns about your pregnancy. -
We offer cost-free ultrasounds to determine if your pregnancy is viable and to assess the stage of fetal development. As a community-funded 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, we do not profit from your ultrasound or pregnancy decision. Since our services are free, nothing will appear on your insurance or be billed to your account.
Your ultrasound information is completely confidential. We are here to support you as you evaluate your options in a safe space.
If you are experiencing health issues such as bleeding, spotting, or cramping, seek immediate medical attention. These could be signs of a miscarriage, and you may need further medical care.
